After a few issues getting our car (including not being picked up by Niza cars, the EasyCar sub-contractor) we got on the road to our hotel, which was in the old district of Seville right near the Alcazar and the Cathedral. We couldn't get the car too close to the hotel, so found ourselves dragging our bags through the back-streets and taking the very long way around...but once again Sarah had found us a great apartment. We celebrated by heading out for Tapas and Sangria, and then taking a tour around the gorgeous town.
Sunday morning we got up and headed for the Alcazar, a Moorish castle which was later converted by the Christians kings into their palace. It is truly spectacular, and fascinating to see history built layer-on-layer and style-upon-style.
That afternoon we went to the bullring, which although there wasn't a fight on was interesting to see. The killing of the bull took hours - and with 6 bulls and 3 bull-fighters it would have been an absolute epic. The tour ended a little abruptly, though, with us being kicked out onto the street through the back entrance (past the chapel where bull-fighters would pray before putting their lives on the line - bulls won more often than I realised (if by winning you mean killing the bullfighter before being killed themselves)).
Monday we got on the road toward our next stop, Granada...but that will have to wait for another time.
