As alluded to in an earlier post, after a couple of weeks of searching (and with the help of the fantastic team at Bright Young Things - you should check them out if ever you're job-hunting in London) I've taken a job as a 'Senior Strategy Manager' with Barclays Business Banking. It is in a fairly new team that they've filled with ex-consultants with the intention of developing all of their strategy in-house rather than employing external consultants. They've just had some management changes, which will make sure that my time there isn't dull.
I start on Monday, and am very excited about it (although a little daunted at the same time...it will be a pretty steep learning curve). It is also the first time I've ever worked for a corporate, and I just received an e-mail telling me which floor, zone, bay and desk number was mine. A far cry from PJPL's 'the one over there in the corner'!
The building is located in the Docklands re-development, which is filled with new buildings and underground shopping (in fact I can do the five-minute walk from the Tube station to work without actually seeing the sun/rain (more likely rain)). It doesn't really feel like London though, more like a chunk of a super-modern Asian city uprooted and landed in a formerly dilapidated district. Still, given that we have HSBC and Citibank next door, it seems certain that we're in the new banking hub.
